GPS & StarFire Network
Any guidance system relies on the Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS works with orbiting satellites, in any weather, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. Each satellite transmits signal information and GPS receivers take this information to calculate their location.
The raw GPS signal is only accurate to within several meters – not good enough for precision ag applications. To get that higher level of accuracy, the satellite signal needs to be cross-referenced with a “differential correction signal” (DGPS).
The John Deere correction signals therefore use the industry-exclusive John Deere StarFire Network to provide cross-reference, for reliable position information and sufficient accuracy for precision agricultural applications throughout the world.
