Straw Chopper Knives

Scale Chopper Knives Genuine John Deere straw chopper knives are manufactured to extremely fine weight tolerances to ensure that the chopper rotor runs smoothly. Even a small variation in weight can cause a rotor to become unbalanced.

The image on the right shows an imitation knife that is significantly heavier than the John Deere knife. In fact, the imitated knife is out of the John Deere tolerance by a factor of five. This can result in an unbalanced rotor and excessive vibration. Vibration in the straw chopper can lead to premature failure of both the chopper housing and straw hood. In addition, vibration causes uneven drive loads that can lead to early drive-belt failure.
