Gator's home on the range
Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, which hosts the Seniors Open Championship in July, has just bought its first HPX 4x4 Gator utility vehicle from John Deere dealership Nairn Brown in Glasgow. Co-deputy course manager John McLachlan is pictured with the new machine, which is being fitted with optional doors in due course – a blessing for the operator when the prevailing north-westerly wind starts to blow across the famous links!
"We’ve had Gators on loan in the past for The Open Championship and other major events, but we’ve not bought one before now," says John. "It will be used primarily as a support machine on the driving range in the summer, with its own collector hooked on the front. Ball supply and collection on the range are only
offered to players for seven months of the year, from April until October.
"As a result, in the winter we will also be able to use the Gator for various light transportation and materials handling duties around the three courses. This was one of the reasons we chose the Gator, as it offered us more flexibility."
Nairn Brown dealer principal Robert McEwan adds: "John Deere Gators are certainly one of the most popular machines with a wide variety of our customers, and not just golf clubs. Across the range we must have sold around 70 last year, covering electric, petrol and diesel models."
