For those who like a striping effect on their lawns, John Deere has introduced its first ever range of domestic walk-behind mowers featuring a rear roller.

Designed and built at John Deere’s worldwide walk-behind lawnmower factory in Germany, these three new rotary mowers feature a perfectly balanced, heavy-duty roller to provide a professional looking striped finish on lawns of all shapes and sizes up to 2000m2. Integrated at the rear of the mower deck, the full-width roller supports the weight of the mower, allowing it to follow ground contours for a perfect patterned cut.

Cutting widths on the R43RVE, R47RKB and R54RKB mowers are 43, 47 and 54cm (17, 18.5 and 21in) respectively, and all three models feature John Deere’s established TurboStar mowing system. This combines a deeply contoured mower deck and built-in fan with the TurboJet blade to create increased airflow, resulting in superior grass collection, particularly in wet conditions. The large capacity, durable and lightweight collection bags feature a ‘bag full’ indicator to tell the operator exactly when the bag needs emptying.

The entry level R43RVE model offers electric start, while the two larger models incorporate a blade brake safety clutch. When this is released, it stops the mower blade but leaves the engine running, which allows the user to empty the grass bag without needing to restart the mower every time.

Further common features include powerful four stroke petrol engines, variable drive speeds to suit different mowing conditions, adjustable cutting height and a lightweight die-cast aluminium deck with a standard 15 year warranty for domestic use. In addition, the handles are adjustable for height and can be folded away for easier storage and transport.
