Jim Hanley to withdraw from John Deere’s farm business

An association of more than 40 years between Jim Hanley (Farm Machinery) Ltd of Ashford, Co Wicklow and John Deere will draw to a close later this year.

The agricultural market is shrinking as more and more farmland in the Dublin and Wicklow areas is going for urban development, golf clubs and other sporting facilities. As a result the area can no longer separately sustain its own independent John Deere dealership and the level of investment that is required to support modern agricultural equipment.

Derek Plant Farm Machinery Ltd of Lusk, Co Dublin will take over the franchise on November 1 and assume responsibility for sales and service support in both the Co Dublin and Co Wicklow areas. New dealership premises will be opened in Co Wicklow later this year, details of which will be announced in due course.

Jim Hanley will now focus on his existing lawn & groundscare business, which includes sole distributorships for Simplicity, Wessex, Jensen, Heitmann, Posch and Pflanzfuchs equipment.

"These changes are being made to provide continuity of sales and service support for our loyal and valued customers in Co Wicklow, and a strong and effective dealership presence in the area for the future," commented John Deere Limited division sales manager Antony Scott. "We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Jim Hanley for the outstanding contribution he has made to the development of our agricultural equipment business in Ireland over the last 40 years, and wish him every success for the future."
