Latest Generation PowerTech Plus™ Engines
provide more power and fuel efficiency

7430 Premium Tractor

May 14, 2007 - John Deere’s latest generation of Tier 3 compliant PowerTech Plus™ engines offer more power, improved performance and equal or even better levels of fuel economy compared with previous models.

Against a background of ever more stringent emission regulations and significantly increased fuel prices, John Deere engine performance has made further progress. Following the introduction of Tier 3 compliant 9.0 litre engines on John Deere 8030 Series tractors, these new generation PowerTech Plus™ diesel engines feature a 40 per cent reduction in nitrous oxide (NOx) exhaust emissions, and are available in 4.5 and 6.8 litre versions.

The engines, which have been designed for the new 6030 and 7030 Series tractors, operate with a high pressure common rail (HPCR) fuel system and are equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger, a four-valve head, cooled exhaust gas recirculation and an electronic engine management control unit.

The four-valve head provides better airflow and centre injection, which improves the level of combustion, while the HPCR system offers better cold starting and reduced noise levels. Improved torque levels and better fuel economy are also achieved by the variable geometry turbocharger, which provides a quicker response to load changes.

In addition, the cooled exhaust gas recirculation system helps to reduce the nitrous oxide emissions without affecting the performance of the engine; it cools the combustion process in the chamber by reducing the oxygen content of the air intake.

Based on a rated speed of 2100 rpm, both versions of the engine deliver a 40 per cent increase in torque to reach maximum levels at 1600 rpm, with a 35 per cent faster torque rise than on previous models. This results in faster reaction times in difficult working conditions, less gear shifting, the ability to maintain transport speeds under varying loads and a quick return to the target speed after headland turns.

The Intelligent Power Management system is a standard feature on all 6030 and 7030 Premium Tractors, and optional on Large Frame 7030 and 8030 Series Tractors, providing additional engine power when required for transport and PTO applications. The extra power is produced during rear PTO operations above 1 km/h when the PTO system detects a load, or during transport when travelling at over 14 km/h.

Intelligent Power Management therefore allows the operator to complete jobs quicker by maintaining higher transport speeds under varying conditions and consistent field speeds during tough PTO operations. The activation of Intelligent Power Management is automatically displayed on the cab’s CommandCenter™ control monitor.

Today, with more than 800,000 6.8 litre / 4.5 litre engines produced, John Deere looks back upon a history of flawless performance.
