John Deere Introduces 4930 Self Propelled Sprayer

4930 Self-Propelled Sprayer

March 30, 2007 - Contractors and large acreage growers are constantly challenged to bring more efficiency to their operations with equipment, labour, and inputs. John Deere announces the introduction of a new, high-capacity self-propelled sprayer, the 4930, to help growers and contractors get more done in less time.

"Contractors ask and we deliver," says Kevin Platz, Strategic Segment Manager, John Deere Limited. "We've increased the horsepower on the 4930 Sprayer to 242 kW (325 hp), outfitted it with a 4,542 litre high flow solution system, and designed it to maintain spray speeds in soft or hilly terrain. Commercial operators will cover more acres in less time and, with new guidance and boom control technology, become more efficient with every pass in the field. Unsurpassed productivity is what we aspire to deliver with the new 4930 Sprayer."

A 242 kW (325 hp) John Deere PowerTech Plus™ engine delivers the highest levels of performance in tough hills and muddy conditions. The cleaner-burning engine is a perfect combination of power and fuel efficiency.

Swath Control Pro is a spraying solution available from John Deere Ag Management Solutions (AMS). With the GreenStar™ 2 (GS2) Display, the boom sections automatically turn on and off at end rows, waterways, and other obstacles; and helps the 4930 Sprayer save time and eliminate waste. The system controls individual boom sections that automatically turn on or shut off nozzles, based on a Global Positioning System (GPS) coverage map that is created as the sprayer goes through the field.

"We've also designed the sprayer with Boom Trac Pro, a boom levelling system which maintains the boom at a constant height over the crop," explains Platz. "Sensors constantly monitor the distance from the boom to the ground, and adjust the boom automatically, eliminating guesswork involved with manual control. This boom-levelling system assists consistent chemical application and greatly reduces boom to soil interaction through constantly changing field conditions."

An optional high-flow spray system also lets you spray 468 litres per hectare at 24 km/h, with the 36.5 metre (120 ft.) boom width configuration.

Other solutions include variable rate technology, as-applied mapping, and AutoTrac™ Assisted Steering. The AutoTrac™ guidance system assists the operator in maintaining straight-line, on-row steering, and helps reduce overall passes through the field. AutoTrac™ plug and play components are designed into every 4930 Sprayer.

"These sprayers are fully supported by the John Deere Dealer network," concludes Platz. "Contractors and large-acreage producers can count on John Deere Dealers for parts, service, and highly-trained technicians to help maintain and service the entire sprayer product line."
