June 07, 2006 - John Deere's Series II 1600 Turbo WAM front rotary mower features a new 16 valve Tier 2 engine, new styling and improved operator comfort.

The 43 kW (57 hp) turbocharged Yanmar engine has been upgraded to meet the latest worldwide emissions regulations. It has a high torque reserve and can produce plenty of power for the toughest conditions. The new streamlined hood design increases airflow to the engine, and helps keep dust and chaff from building up around the panels. It also provides the operator with better visibility to the rear of the machine.

Noise levels have been reduced significantly by employing rubber isolators on the deck motor mountings, similar to those used on the engine. Operator comfort has also been enhanced by the introduction of additional sealing around the operator station, which has reduced the amount of hot air blowing around this area of the mower.

The Series II 1600 Turbo WAM is fitted with a 3.25 metre (128 in.) wide out-front triple rotary mower deck, suitable for large scale commercial mowing. The base unit can also be fitted with front blades and brushes to provide a versatile, high capacity machine for all year round turf and highway-verge maintenance operations.

Combined with a proven mechanical four wheel drive system, an 83.2 litre fuel tank and a transport speed of up to 23.2 km/h, it offers increased productivity on golf courses and in sports grounds, parks and public areas, especially on slopes.

The three robust rear discharge mower decks are fabricated from 7-gauge steel, the thickest in the industry. In mower form, the machine is capable of covering up to 3.4 ha/hr (8.5 acres), at speeds of up to 14.5 km/h, with a cutting height of between 25 and 140 mm (1 and 5.5 in.).

Each wing has a breakaway feature that allows the mower deck to move back and away from any obstacle, then automatically reset to the normal working position. Gauge wheels on all four corners of the wings mean they follow ground contours for a better quality cut.

Other operator friendly features include electronic cruise control, hydrostatic power steering, a fully adjustable, high backed deluxe seat with armrests, and a tiltable steering wheel.
