6030 Series Specialty Cab Tractors : Engine

6030 Series Specialty Cab Tractor Engine

John Deere 6030 Series Specialty Cab Tractors feature the reliable and proven 4.5 L, 2-valve John Deere PowerTech™ E engine.

These Tier 3 emission-compliant air-to-air aspiration engines deliver constant power over a wide range of rpm with a power bulge above rated power and excellent torque characteristics.

PowerTech™ E (2-valve), delivers:

  • Extra power and market-leading torque rise characteristics
  • Optimum performance and economical fuel consumption
  • Industry-exclusive dual-temperature cooling system, resulting in lower fuel consumption
  • Tier III emissions compliance

PTO power and power bulge

The John Deere-exclusive single-injector control, electronic fuel injection system and other key engine parts work together to sense engine load and instantly respond as needed to pull through tough spots. This reduces engine rpm fluctuation resulting in the reduced need to downshift the transmission. Fewer shifts results in less ground variations, providing more overall tractor productivity.

To match the engine power characteristics and improve economy of operation, the rated engine speed is 2300 rpm.

Reduced fuel consumption

There are several new designs in all of the 6030 Series Specialty Cab Tractors that have made a favourable impact on fuel economy. These designs work together to provide a more efficient use of engine power resulting in less fuel consumption.

John Deere PowerTech E (2-valve) 4.5 L engine features include:

  • Eight-valve head (2-valves per cylinder)
  • Multiple injection strategy including two small pre-injections prior to top dead centre followed by the primary injection
  • Fixed geometry turbocharger

Fuel injection system, single injector via common rail
High Pressure Common Rail System

Every 4.5 L PowerTech™ E (2-valve) engine uses a high-pressure common rail to supply fuel pressure to the injectors. The gear-driven high-pressure fuel pump instantly responds to requirements for more or less fuel flow or pressure.

The common rail contains extremely high-pressure fuel and is the channel flowing fuel to each injector. Pressure is generated by the gear-driven piston pump.

Each injector is individually-controlled by the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU turns the injector on and off several times per firing cycle to control the fuel delivery into each cylinder. The ECU can sense engine rpm and load changes 100 times per second and respond instantly. Load and speed sensing allows each cylinder fuel delivery rate to be adjusted independently at the individual injector.
