9020 Series Wheel and Track Tractors : Transmission

Choice of two transmissions

18 SPEED POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION
9020 Series Transmission

Exclusively designed for the 9020 Series tractors, the 18-speed full powershift transmission is optional on the 9120-9420 and standard on the 9320T, 9420T, 9520, 9620 Wheel and 9520T, 9620T Track tractors.

The 9020 Series transmission features include:

  • 18 forward speeds and 6 reverse speeds.
  • Able to shift from neutral to gear up to 13th forward.
  • Speed matching from 18th forward to 13th forward.
  • Clutchless shuttle-shifting between 11th forward and 3rd reverse.
  • Speeds are carefully spaced to take full advantage of engine power bulge and torque characteristics.
  • 10 speeds with a .8 km/h (.5 mph) speed change between gears in the 4.8-12.8 km/h (3-8 mph) working range.
  • Allows selecting the right gear for the operation to ensure that best fuel economy and productivity are obtained.
  • Speeds carefully developed to match all of the tractor's needs.
  • Transmission-to-engine controller communication.

24 SPEED Powr-Sync™ TRANSMISSION

24-speed Powr-Sync™ (standard 9120, 9220, 9320, and 9420 wheel tractors only)

Features:

  • 24F/6R Speeds.
  • Two-lever operation—right lever is the range shift and left lever is the speed selector.
  • Top and bottom shafts are synchronized to provide clash-free shifting through four ranges and three speeds.
  • Powershiftable Hi-Lo located on CommandARM module allows no-clutch shifting between Hi-Lo speeds in each range.
  • Two reverse speeds in each A, B, and C range.
  • Hydraulically actuated, oil-cooled clutch for long life.
  • Park pawl allows easy movement in and out of the park position.
  • Helical-cut gears provide strength and quiet operation.

POWER MANAGEMENT - 9420, 9520 AND 9620 TRACTORS

The electronic controls incorporated into the 9420, 9520 and 9620 Tractors provide many advantages over mechanical or manual system. One advantage allows John Deere to provide protection from drive train overloading. Drive train overloading can occur from extremely heavy ballast coupled with continuous full power loads in lower gears.

Electronic engine controls on the 9420, 9520 and 9620 prevent unintentional drive train overloading and allow John Deere to offer options such as a draft-sensing hitch and a PTO on a tractor with high horsepower.

Features:

  • Engine horsepower is automatically reduced to protect drive train components when:
  • Operating with extremely heavy ballast and full power lugging in gear speeds below 7.2 km/h (4.5 mph).
  • Using a 3-point hitch.
  • Using PTO with tractor stationary.
