5003 Series Tractors : Transmission

5003 Series Tractor

Two transmissions are available to meet the needs of customers in various applications. Tractors equipped with the dependable 2-wheel drive front axle have the 9F/3R Collar Shift and tractors equipped with the 4-wheel drive front axle have the 9F/3R SyncShuttle™ transmission. Both are designed to match the excellent power and torque characteristics of the John Deere PowerTech™ engines.

The Collar Shift transmission on 2-wheel drive models features constant-mesh, helical gears that create a quieter working environment and provide excellent reliability. Fully enclosed, rigid shift linkages for smooth, crisp shifts, enable all operators to clearly know what range and gear they are operating in. Durability is enhanced with the pressure-lubricated top shaft, allowing an operator to achieve performance from one working season to the next.

Nine forward and three reverse speeds are achieved by using two platform-mounted levers for shift operation. The right-hand lever selects one of three forward and one reverse gear as well as a park position. The left-hand lever selects three collar-shifted ranges: A, B and C.

The 9F/3F SyncShuttle™ transmission on the 4-wheel drive models is perfect for customers needing a durable basic transmission to do a mix of field work and light loader work. You can easily select speeds or switch directions without having to completely stop the tractor with synchronised, in-line, shuttle shift capability between 2-R (A range), 5-R (B range), and 8-R (C range). Synchronise shifts between speeds for on-the-go shifting with use of the clutch. Shifts between ranges are not synchronised.

A positive park pawl on both transmissions provides positive park and eliminates the need for a handbrake. This also eliminates clutch service costs that occur when the park brake is accidently left engaged. The neutral start switch requires the gearshift lever to be in the park or neutral position to start the engine.
