1990 Central Commodity System No-till Air Drill : Product Overview

Central Commodity System (CCS) SeedMetering uses large bulk-fill tanks to provide extra seed-carrying capacity. CCS™ features an all-new metering approach that's accurate, exceedingly simple and highly efficient.

SIZES:

  • Choice of working widths – 9.1 m, 11 m, 12.2 m and 13 m (30 ft, 36 ft, 40 ft and 42.5 ft).

ROW SPACINGS

  • The 1990CCS™ is available in single or dual rank designs. The single rank has 381 mm (15-in.) row spacings and the dual rank offers 190.5 mm or 254 mm (7.5-in. or 10-in.) row spacings.

AIR SYSTEM

The 1990CCS™ uses an air delivery system to gently deliver the seed from the seed meters to the individual openers. The air delivery system allows for accurate metering and also allows for increased productivity as it offers the customer wide working widths with a compact transport package.

Note: Tanks are not pressurized.

Features:
  • Airflow is generated by a 447 mm (17.6-in.) diameter hydraulically powered fan.
  • The system requires up to 34 lpm of hydraulic flow and a closed center hydraulic system.
  • Air is channelled to the venturis through a plenum.
  • The venturi generates an area where the seed is sucked into the air stream after it has fallen from the metering wheel.

SEED METERING SYSTEM

The 1990CCS™ SeedMetering takes volumetric metering to the next level of accuracy. The CCS™ SeedMetering uses volumetric metering wheels to maintain accurate population control. The meter wheel feeds a maximum of two openers; by doing so, it ensures that an equal number of seeds gets distributed to every opener. It is so accurate that when seeding on 381 mm or 508 mm (15-in. or 20-in.) row spacings, the population will vary no more than two percent.

Features:
  • Accurate CCS™ SeedMetering Capability.
  • Metering of the seed is done at the tanks.
  • For durability, all CCS™ tanks are made of the same translucent plastic used on the 1910 Commodity Air Cart. Their specially designed shape ensures good clean-out, as there's no place for seed lodge.
  • Features metering gates at each individual metering wheel.
  • Features an oscillating seed agitation system.
  • 2,467 L (70 Bushel) capacity on 9.1 m and 11 m (30 ft and 36 ft) models.
  • 3,540 L (100 Bushel) capacity on 12.2 m and 13 m (40 ft and 42 ft) models.
  • Three optional meters are colour-coded for quick reference:
  • Black Narrow - Low rates and small seeds - sorghum/milo only.
  • Black Medium - Medium rates to 80 lb./acre; medium and small size seeds - milo and wheat only.
  • White - High rates of wheat, barley, oats, rice, and large seeds - soybeans.

MONITORING SYSTEM

Single rank models are powered and monitored through a CT350/CT450 or optional SeedStar™ population monitoring system. For dual rank models there are three options: the SM500, CT350 or SeedStar™ population monitoring. The SM500 features 4-meter counting, while the CT350 and SeedStar™ systems feature optional 4-meter or all-meter counting. These systems locate the counting sensors located just after the seed metering wheels.

Features:
  • CT 350 - up to 32 rows.
  • CT 450 - more than 32 rows.
  • Electronic population rate control allows adjusting seeding rate on-the-go.
  • A simple adjustment in the cab allows you to either increase/decrease your seeding rates to match your target population.
  • Half-width disconnect allows you to seed point rows/headlands without overlapping, again saving you seed.
  • Seed sensors are optical style.
  • Optional seed blockage warning systems for CCS™.

OPENERS

The 1990CCS™ uses proven 90 Series single disk no-till openers to provide consistent and accurate seed placement with minimal soil disturbance. The single disk openers are gang-mounted and are hydraulically raised and lowered. The hydraulics also work to provide a wide range of downforce settings for the openers.

In conditions ranging from no-till to conventional-till, the 90 Series opener will place each seed with precision at a specific depth and ensure excellent seed-to-soil contact for even germination. Each row will have an individual gauge wheel, press wheel, and closing wheel and each opener unit will move with the contours and variations of the land.

Features:
  • 457 mm (18-in.) Disk blade at 7-degree angle, slicing a furrow for the seed boot.
  • Opener gauge wheel: 114 x 406 mm (4.5 x 16-in). semi-pneumatic wheel gauges depth.
  • Opener gauge wheel adjustment from 13 to 89 mm (0.5-3.5-in.) in 635 mm (25-in.) increments.
  • The opener disk rides on a hub with triple-lip dual-tapered roller bearings.
  • Opener press wheel: 25.4 x 254 mm (1x10-in.) press wheel firms seed into bottom of furrow to promote germination.
  • Down pressure on the press wheel can be adjusted from 2.2 to 20 kg (5 to 45 lb.) (3 settings) to match soil conditions without the use of tools.
  • Features rubber on tyre flexes, enabling wheel to remain free of mud and trash and not pick up seeds.
  • 25.4 x 305 mm (1 x 12-in.) cast wheel @ 15 degree vertical angle with 12-19.5 kg (26-43 lb.) down pressure.

FRAME

The 1990CCS™ features a three-section drawn flexible frame with floating hitch and over-centre fold for transport.

Features:
  • Wings flex 20 degrees up and 10 degrees down.
  • 108/112-degree over-centre fold.
  • 102 x 152 mm (4 x 6-in). cross tubes and 51 x 152 mm (2 x 6-in). end tubes.
  • 1,341 mm (52.8-in.) between ranks of openers.
  • Contour-following ability.

WHEELS AND TYRES

Features:
  • Dual wheels on centre frame with 11L x 15 In. load range D implement tyres.
  • Single wheels on wing frames with 11L x 15 In. 8 PR implement tyres.
  • 11L-15 tyres feature 8-bolt hubs and rims on the mainframe, with 6-bolt hubs and rims on wing wheels.
  • 31 x 13.5-15 tyres are optional.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Reduced maintenance. The meter feed wheels, venturis, meter cups, agitator, delivery fan, and delivery hoses don't have any maintenance requirements and aren't high wear parts.
  • Better population control than a box drill or an air seeder.
  • Dual rank models use a new, larger 32 mm (1.25-in.) diameter flow splitter with optional shut-off gates to evenly divide seed flow between front and rear ranks.
  • A 447 mm (17.6-in.) diameter, hydraulically driven fan provides more air flow at lower fan speeds.
  • Adjustable bin-level sensor.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
  • SMV emblem.
  • Implement warning lights (seven pin terminal auxiliary electric outlet required on towing tractor).
  • Hitch safety chain.
  • Hitch jack.
  • Non-skid platform and ladder.

Boost seeding accuracy and efficiency

Improved efficiency. When the first air seeders were created that was their purpose - to seed with greater productivity and efficiency.

Today, that remains the goal of every John Deere air seeding tool. But to boost your efficiency up even further, turn to John Deere GreenStar™ systems. From guidance systems to record-keeping and mapping software, GreenStar™ products are designed to help you make the most of your equipment investment.

In particular, Parallel Tracking™ or AutoTrac™ are great options to increase field efficiency, eliminate costly field overlap, and provide relief for operator fatigue.
