Self Propelled Windrowers : Traction Unit

Hydrostatic drive

The hydrostatic drive gives the operator precise control of ground travel speeds to match varying crop and field conditions.

The 4995's distribution gearbox drives the rotary platform pump and the wheel motor pumps. The pumps provide more flow to the wheel drive motors for more power and higher ground speeds in the field operating range. The distribution gear case is mounted directly to the engine. The distribution gear case has a separate oil cooler for cooling.

Hydrostatic pumps and wheel motor housings are made of heavy-duty cast iron for quiet and reliable operation. Dual-speed wheel motors are used to match the ground speed required:

  • Field operation from 0 to 12.8 km/h (0 to 8 mph) on the 4895.
  • Field operation from 0 to 16 km/h (0 to 10 mph) on the 4995.
  • Transport speed from 0 to 22.5 km/h (0 to 14 mph) for both the 4895 and 4995.

Servo controls are used on the hydrostatic pumps.

  • Provide excellent control with minimised operator effort.
  • Hydrostatic drive control lever will maintain position when operating on hilly terrain.
  • Simplifies linkages for added reliability.
  • Reduces noise and vibration in the cab.

A 94.6 L (25 U.S. gallon) oil reservoir supplies oil to the pumps.

Oil is cooled as it passes through the combination oil cooler and air conditioner condenser assembly at the rear of the 4895 and 4995.

  • Provides increased reliability of the hydrostatic components.

The 4895 and 4995 Windrowers use large, heavy-duty planetary final drives.

  • Provide industry's highest torque rating for dependable operation in corrugates, borders, irrigation wheel tracks, and rough field conditions.
  • Final drive gear ratios have been increased from 41-to-1 to 44-to-1 to provide the windrower with 5.4% more usable pulling power for climbing hillsides, loading on trailers, or operating in adverse field conditions.
  • Planetary final drives can be easily disengaged for towing.
