7000 Series Self Propelled Forage Harvesters : Feedpath & Crop Flow

PROGRESSIVE IN-LINE CROP FLOW CONCEPT

All John Deere 7000 series self-propelled forage harvesters feature one common progressive in-line crop flow concept.

  • Material delivered by the front end equipment is taken in and compressed by the aggressive front upper and lower feedrolls.
  • The lower front feedroll houses the metal detection system.
  • Rotating knives of the cutterhead chop material as it passes over the shearbar.
  • Chopped material is conveyed by the cutterhead through the curved transition chute.
  • Chopped maize or whole-crop passes through the kernel processor rolls positioned in the transition chute.
  • Crop is re-accelerated by the impeller and funnelled into the spout.
  • Fully adjustable spout directs crop flow to the truck or trailer.

FEEDROLLS

Four feedrolls grasp the crop delivered by the front end equipment, compress it into a tight, uniform mat and feed it to the cutterhead. The upper feedrolls are suspended allowing them to adapt to any crop mat thickness. Variable speed of the feedrolls determines length of cut.

  • John Deere's unique feedrolls are designed for high performance, uniform material flow and reduced wear.
  • Radial movement of the upper feedrolls ensures that the crop is always firmly on the shearbar for a uniform chop length.
  • The lower, rear smooth roll is made of hardened steel for longer service life.

John Deere METAL DETECTION SYSTEM

The metal detection system provides outstanding protection for the forage harvester and livestock. Any iron based metal embedded in the crop mat is detected by the magnetic field generated by a 3-coil sensor inside the lower front feedroll. The magnetic field is oriented 15 degrees to the front and scans the crop permanently. As soon as metal is detected, the system automatically releases the stop pawl and disengages the feedroll drive clutch. The stop pawl snaps in a cam of the safety clutch situated outside the IVLOC™-transmission and stops the feedrolls immediately.

  • Provides a deep scanning range to protect from metal embedded in thick crop mats.
  • Stainless steel feedrolls are demagnetised and don't interfere with the magnetic field of the metal detector.

UNIQUE IVLOC™ TRANSMISSION

The Infinitely Variable Length Of Cut-transmission is a John Deere exclusive feature. The IVLOC™- transmission provides drive power for the feedrolls and the header in forward and reverse operating mode. Input drive power is from the cutterhead. The feedroll speed can be infinitely varied from the cab by controlling the speed of a hydrostatic motor on the transmission which is powered by a variable displacement hydraulic pump. Variable speed control is implemented by a planetary gear set whose sun gear is driven by the hydrostatic motor. The outer ring gear is connected to the main input shaft. Speed of the feedrolls is a result of the super position of the sun gear and ring gear speed.

  • Optional equipment on 7200, standard on 7300, 7400, and 7500 models.
  • Finger tip adjustment from the operators seat of any desired length of cut on-the-go is convenient, productive and time saving, in mm steps.
  • Appropriate length of cut for every crop ensures best silage quality.

FOUR SPEED LOC-TRANSMISSION

The model 7200 is standard equipped with the field proven four-speed Length Of Cut (LOC)-transmission. Four lengths of cut can be manually adjusted using two shift rods. A third shift rod provides two speeds for the header.

  • Standard equipment on 7200 models.
  • Well-spaced gears provide chop lengths for a wide range of crop conditions.
  • Slip clutch protects the feedrolls and another one the header drive.

DURADRUM™ CUTTERHEAD

The John Deere DuraDrum™ cutterhead ensures continuous, uniform crop flow, minimum wear; unsurpassed capacity and high quality silage in any crop.
John Deere offers cutterheads fitted with 56, 48 and 40 segmented knives, to suit every crop and condition.

KERNEL PROCESSOR

John Deere, a pioneer in the development and use of kernel processors, has manufactured and sold them since 1982. The kernel processor cracks all maize kernels for better digestibility, and accelerates the crop flow to the crop accelerator. Silage quality is improved with minimal increase in power requirement. Recommended for whole-crop and maize silage.

  • The kernel processor is positioned in the curved crop chute to ensure that the crop stream will enter the rolls at a right angle. There will be no slow down effect nor build-up occurring.
  • Cracked grain give the digestive system of livestock direct access to the inner grain material for better use.
  • The need for a very fine chop length is eliminated.
  • Continuous crop flow enhances productivity of the harvester.
  • 100% kernel damage is ensured, hence improved silage quality.
  • Automatic Kernel Processor gap adjustment.
  • Automatic Kernel Processor drive belt tension.

QUICK-CHANGE KERNEL PROCESSOR

Quick-change feature allows the raising and lowering of the kernel processor to enable harvesting grass and maize or whole plant cereals while the kernel processor remains with the harvester. Changing from grass to maize and vice versa takes only minutes.

  • Change over is easy and simple - no tools and no adjustment required.
  • Adds versatility and flexibility - makes the harvester more productive.
  • Hoist and slide rails facilitate change over.
  • The 700 Series kernel processor design offers an additional benefit unique to John Deere. The ability to lower the kernel processor out of the crop chute, and then out of the machine completely.

CROP ACCELERATOR

The crop accelerator is as wide as the crop chute. The curved crop chute delivers the crop into the accelerator at a shallower angle reducing wedging and pinching of crop. Impeller rotates at 1,800 rpm, a 2,000 rpm option is available for difficult, dry silage conditions.

  • Continuous crop flow into crop accelerator enhances throughput capacity.
  • Reliable drive and bearings for trouble-free operation.

CENTRE MOUNTED SPOUT

John Deere's in-line crop flow concept continues in the straight line transition and spout base. This enables crop delivery to either side and the rear at an arc of 200 degrees. Spout measures 4350 mm in length, reaching most side following trailers. An extra long spout (+ 750 mm) is optionally available for harvesters operating with wide headers. Width of the spout is 250 mm to guide strongest crop streams efficiently.

  • Straight line transition and spout base reduce wear significantly and do not impair crop stream speed.
  • Long centre-mounted spout enhances crop delivery to either side and the rear for higher productivity.
  • Large section spout handles heaviest crops at minimum wear.

SPOUT ROTATION

Spout rotation is implemented by a hydraulic motor with worm gear acting on the ring gear at the spout base. Spout rotates at an arc of 200 degrees. The rotation function is activated by pressing a switch on the multi function lever. Rotation speed can be adjusted for slow and fast speed with a switch on the CommandArmâ„¢ console. Also a time delay between slow and fast rotation can be set from 0 to 25 seconds.

  • Operator can see the spout and trailer more easily resulting in higher productivity and less crop loss.
  • No foot operated spout controls are used, reducing operator´s fatigue.
  • Adjustable spout rotation speed enhances productivity and reduces crop loss.
