70 STS Series Combine Harvesters : Axles

70 Series Combine Axle

All 70 Series combines feature a high-strength, one-piece front axle that is made of one-piece rectangular tube welded to the separator uprights. The advantages of this new axle include increased structural reliability, eliminates fasteners that can work loose, jacking pockets are provided for lifting the combine and axle spacers are available to achieve the desired tread widths for certain tyre sizes when harvesting row crops.

The rugged rear axles are available in two types:

  • Fixed-tread rear axle is base equipment on all 9670 and 9770 STS Grain Combines. The fixed rear axle is not available on the 9570 STS Grain Combine, corn combines, and it is not available with the two-speed four-wheel drive option.

  • Adjustable-tread rear axle is base equipment on all STS corn and rice combines and is available an option on grain combines. Being adjustable in 203 mm increments this allows the machine to adapt to ridge farming practices to reduce tilling requirements. This axle is also available as an option equipped with the two-speed four-wheel drive system for corn and grain combines.

The heavy-duty spindles are used on both the fixed and adjustable rear axle on 70 Series STS combines. The spindles allow for larger rear steering tyre options, higher load-carrying capacity and greater durability.

Drive System

The main propulsion drive system and the drive axles of all John Deere 70 Series Combines are designed to be rugged and dependable to deliver years of performance no matter the field or terrain conditions.

From the final drive in the front to the rear spindles on the rear steering axle, all components are matched right for the size of the particular model combine they are featured on.

Equip any 70 Series Combine with dual wheels, 2-speed 4-wheel drive or even high-flotation front and rear tyres, and the ground drive system and axles are designed to handle whatever tyre selection that best meets the harvesting need.
