Charles O. Holliday, Jr. is chairman of the board, Bank of America Corporation, a position he has held since April 2010. He served as chairman of the board of DuPont beginning January 2009, retiring in December 2009.
Holliday joined DuPont as an engineer at Old Hickory, Tennessee, in 1970. He held various manufacturing assignments for several years, and then he held positions of increasing responsibility including corporate plans manager, global business director, and director of marketing.
In 1990, Holliday became vice president and then president of DuPont Asia Pacific, based in Tokyo, Japan. He was appointed senior vice president of DuPont in 1992, and then executive vice president and member of the office of chief executive, and chairman-Asia Pacific in 1995. Holliday was elected director and then president of DuPont in 1997. He served as chief executive officer beginning in February 1998, and chairman and chief executive officer from January 1999 until he retired in January 2009 as chief executive officer.
Besides serving on the board of Deere & Company and chairing the board of directors for Bank of America Corporation, Holliday serves as director of CH2M HILL Company, Ltd. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC. He is also an executive in residence at Vanderbilt University, chairman emeritus of Catalyst, and director of the Council on Competitiveness Worldwide Federation. Holliday is a member of the Business Council and the Society of Chemical Industry – American Section. Additionally, Holliday is a founding member of the International Business Council.
Holliday graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He received honorary doctorates from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York in 2005 and from Washington College, Chestertown, Maryland in 1998.
