BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TOOLS

Q.   What are the benefits of a Windows-based system?

A.   The majority of today's business is conducted in a Windows environment, and it is anticipated that future growth and development in technology will be predominately in Windows. After the initial adjustment, Windows is found to be easier to use and more flexible.

Q.   Our employees like what they have now. Why should I go through a system change?

A.   Change can be a good thing! Upgrading your system would be highly recommended, for example, if you see any growth in your business as you move into the future. Making a change could mean eliminating doing some processes by hand or eliminating procedures that have become automatic but not needed, which could amount to time savings and improved profitability. Changing to a more advanced system could also help you improve your customer service efforts in new ways, which could enable you to create a competitive edge. All in all, help your employees understand the advantages a new, comprehensive system can bring to the business and as they reap the benefits, they will come to appreciate the improvements.

Q.   Will I need to hire an Internal Systems staff upon implementing a new system to keep our network running?

A.   Through the use of modems, the AGRIS support staff can handle most issues that may come up in running your network. AGRIS will install the network in such a way to help minimize your need for internal systems personnel.

Q.   How long should a computer system last?

A.   Regarding hardware: with the constant improvements made in technology and day-to-day demands placed on a computer system, businesses find, on average, that they need to replace one-third of their hardware each year to maintain top-notch speed and efficiency. Regarding software: with AGRIS systems, we are continually making refinements and enhancements to better meet the needs of agribusinesses like yours. Upgrades are included as part as your support and maintenance agreement and help ensure the system meets your needs for many years to come.

Q.   When analyzing different business management systems, what questions should I ask?

A.   One important aspect to consider is how you can improve your interaction with customers. Another key area is being able to monitor your highest risks to profit through margin and inventory control as well as employee productivity issues. Also ask whether the operating system used is similar to what is currently being used in the industry. Will it provide you a platform that works well with modern information management tools, which is crucial as the need for data exchange outside your organization will become more important. Also, find out what your competitors are using.

Q.   Why should I buy from a big company like John Deere Agri Services rather than a smaller, local company?

A.   With the fast changes in technology and high costs of keeping software up to date, smaller companies often cannot stay current or even ahead of the curve and often struggle to just stay in business. One important characteristic of AGRIS is that you have a large team behind you, which means you have more support staff to assist you in your day-to- day needs as well as product managers and industry specialists who are continually addressing product issues.

Q.   How much time will the installation process take away from my day-to-day business?

A.   With the new services and educational methods AGRIS has available, the actual down time for the installation process is minimal. In the beginning, you may have a few months of slower productivity as employees become familiar with the new system. However, after the initial short learning curve, your day-to-day business processes will not only return to normal but improve as a result of the new efficiencies the system may bring to your business.

Q.   What is the difference between integration and interfacing?

A.   Integration means different parts of the system share information, in most cases in a live environment, which limits and often reduces having to reenter data. An interface passes data back and forth and is usually not complete or live.

Q.   How will AGRIS tools make my business more profitable?

A.   AGRIS V9's ability to easily capture a vast amount of information combined with its powerful reporting capabilities enable you to keep abreast of important issues like inventory position, product margins, and account balances for making strategic business decisions. In addition, advanced security features enable you to have accurate audit trails and help prevent errors, reduce theft, and make it easier to correct mistakes. Saving time - and therefore saving money - is achieved with integration features that eliminate duplicate data entry. Consider another example looking at the oneWeigh Scale Automation System: adding automation can help improve profitability by streamlining day-to-day processes and enabling you to offer better customer service. And having happier customers is bound to reflect positively on the bottom line.

Q.   How will AGRIS ensure I have a smooth implementation?

A.   AGRIS has more than 20 years of experience in software and hardware implementation. We are constantly developing new tools and methodology that improves the transition from one system to another. Prior to installation, we analyze your business to identify your particular requirements, which reduces the set-up time required. We also create a list of responsibilities that clearly defines your role in the implementation process as well as the steps AGRIS will carry out. AGRIS assigns a coordinator who is in charge of overseeing the implementation to ensure it proceeds on schedule and to address any issues that may arise. In addition, we offer tools like our unique eLearning service that offers comprehensive training from the convenience of your desk to get you quickly up-to-speed on your new software. While it's impossible to predict every possible scenario or guarantee there won't be a single bump in the road along the way, AGRIS takes great care in doing whatever it takes to get you up and running on your new system with minimal disruption.

Q.   I have multiple locations. How can AGRIS software help me manage my business as my trade territory expands?

A.   AGRIS V9 is a scalable system currently handling as many as 200 locations on one wide-area network (WAN). The live inventory and integration capabilities of the system make management of multi-location information a simple task.

Q.   What makes AGRIS V9 an advanced business management system?

A.   We've heard from current customers that AGRIS V9 is the most comprehensive business management system they've seen for agribusinesses. The full-featured Commodity and Agronomy Management packages are two highlights of the system. In addition, the oneWeigh Scale Automation System that integrates to AGRIS V9 adds a powerful dimension.

Q.   Why won't AGRIS V9 run on a mainframe?

A.   The client/server configuration in which AGRIS V9 runs offers much more flexibility and capabilities than a mainframe, enabling us to allow our customers more options.

Q.   What if I would like to see a new feature added to the software? How are enhancement requests handled?

A.   Enhancement requests may be submitted in a couple of ways. A form is available on the AGRIS Web site at www.agris.com or you may speak to a support representative about your suggestion at 1-800-366-2474. Requests for software enhancements are then forwarded to our product management team who will review them while taking into consideration various factors such as development time necessary, cost issues, and widespread appeal.
